Award-Winning Virtual Library
initiated August 2019; ongoing
The VCC Foundation’s Virtual Library provides free public access to thousands of historic Vieux Carré Commission archives through an interactive map-based system. This comprehensive digital collection includes 44,000 scanned historic slides linked to individual properties, GIS mapping of every structure in the neighborhood, and detailed building color ratings. Our ongoing digitization efforts continue to expand the collection with historic paper photographs, with plans to add 4,000 property files and meta-tag images to over 500 architectural terms. This resource is an essential tool for architects, property owners, residents, and preservation enthusiasts around the world.
Funded in part by generous grants from the Ella West Freeman Foundation and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation.
